Miami vs. Washington – 8/8/17 MLB Preview and Pick
The Miami Marlins continue their current seven-game road trip this Tuesday night with the second of four games against the NL East rival Washington Nationals in a 7:05 p.m. (ET) start at Nationals Park.
Miami at Washington Game Preview
Miami came into this series with a 7-4 record over its last 11 games, but it did drop two of three road games against Atlanta this past weekend. The Marlins are holding down second place in the NL East at 52-57 on the year, but they remain a full 13 games in back of Washington in the division title race. With those pair of losses to the Braves, their record on the road this season fell to 25-29. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in five of their last six games overall on BetAnySports’ closing line.
Vance Worley is expected to get the start for Miami on Tuesday night. The right-hander will be making his seventh start of the season and he is coming off a solid outing against Washington last Wednesday at home when he held the Nationals scoreless on two hits over seven innings pitched. His ERA on the year now stands at 5.31 with a 1.40 WHIP.
Washington took two out of three from the Chicago Cubs on the road this past weekend to improve to 65-44 overall. It is an even 5-5 in its last 10 games and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in five of its last seven games. The Nationals return home for Monday night series opener with a 29-22 record at their home ball park this season, but they are an even 5-5 in their last 10 games played at home.
Look for Washington to turn to AJ Cole as its starter for Tuesday’s contest. The right-hander is 1-1 through his first two starts this season with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP. He faced Miami last Wednesday and was shelled for five earned runs on six hits including two home runs in five innings pitched. This followed a quality start against Philadelphia where he only gave up one earned run on six hits in six innings of work.
Miami at Washington Free Game Prediction
In a rematch of last Wednesday’s 7-0 victory by Miami as a slight -102 home favorite, I am going to go with the Marlins again this time around as +135 underdogs on the road. I get the feeling that Cole is going to struggle again against this Miami lineup.
