New York at New England- NFL Week 4 Preseason Game Preview and Pick

BetAnySports Pointspread: New England -3

BetAnySports Total Line: 38

The New York Giants close out their preseason schedule with a trip to Gillette Stadium this Thursday night to face the New England Patriots. This matchup between two teams in the East Division of their respective conference is slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m.

New York at New England Game Preview

The Giants open the preseason with losses (both straight-up and against the spread) to Pittsburgh at home and to Cleveland on the road as favorites on BetAnySports’ closing line, but they added a game to the win column last week with a 32-31 squeaker against the city rival New York Jets as 4.5-point home favorites at MetLife Stadium. The total went OVER 36 points in that game after staying UNDER in their first two contests.

Last season, New York closed out its preseason schedule with a 17-9 victory against New England as a 2.5-point home underdog to even its record to 2-2 both SU and ATS. This year’s matchup could turn into a similar defensive battle with players like Eli Manning and Odell Beckman out of the lineup. The Giants’ defense shined last week against the Jets with a safety and two interception returns for touchdowns to help seal the win.

New England has followed the same path as the Giants in the preseason with losses to Jacksonville at home and Houston on the road as a favorite before getting its first win of the season last week against Detroit. The Patriots failed to cover in their 30-28 victory over the Lions as 3.5-point road favorites and the total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing 43.5-point line. The total has gone OVER in all three games.

While New England’s offense was able to move the ball up and down the field last week with Tom Brady getting some significant playing time at quarterback, the effort was severely dampened with the loss of wide receiver Julius Edelman with a torn ACL. This is a major blow given just how big of a target he was in the Patriots’ passing game. Backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will get an extended amount of reps this Thursday night to see what he can do against the Giants’ defense.

Keeping players healthy will be the main priority for both teams on Thursday night and in light of the defensive battle these two teams staged against one another last year in the preseason, I am going with the UNDER 38 points at BetAnySports as my “best bet” pick this time around.
