New York Giants vs. Detroit Lions – 9/18/17 NFL Preview and Pick
Monday Night Football wraps up Week 2 on the new NFL season with a NFC clash between the Detroit Lions and the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) with ESPN carrying the national broadcast.
Detroit at New York Game Preview
Detroit got its new season off to a strong start with Sunday’s 35-23 victory against Arizona as a 2.5-point home underdog. The total easily went OVER BetAnySports’ closing 48.5-point line. This helped to erase the memory of last season’s collapse in which the Lions lost their last four games straight-up while going 0-5 against the spread in their last five contests. The total stayed UNDER in nine of their final 11 games last year.
Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford earned every penny of his fat new contract last week with four touchdown throws including two to rookie wide receiver Kenny Golladay. He ended the day completing 29 of his 41 attempts for 292 yards. Golden Tate came down with 10 catches for 107 yards to lead all receivers and, all told, Stafford completed passes to seven different players.
The Giants would probably opt for a do-over following Sunday night’s 19-3 loss to division rival Dallas as six-point road underdogs on BetAnySports’ closing line. The total stayed UNDER the closing 46-point line and it has now stayed UNDER in eight of New York’s last 10 games. It comes into its home opener with a SU six-game winning streak at MetLife Stadium while going 5-1 ATS. The total stayed UNDER in four of the six games.
The Week 1 highlight reel for veteran quarterback Eli Manning was not as nearly as long as his counterpart in Monday night’s matchup. He did manage to complete 76.3 percent of his 38 passing attempts against the Cowboys but it only added up to 220 yards through the air and three points on the scoreboard. The absence of All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. due to an ankle injury definitely hurt the effort, but it did not help that New York’s ground game ground to a halt with 35 total yards on 12 carries.
Detroit at New York Free Game Prediction
Overreaction is part of the game when it comes to betting on the NFL which is why the betting consensus is all over Detroit in this matchup. I going the opposite way with a play on a Giants’ team that is much better than the one we saw on Sunday night.
