Cubs vs Rockies – 6/10/19 MLB Pick, Odds, and Predictions

Chicago Cubs vs Colorado Rockies MLB Baseball Monday, June 10, 2019 (8:40pm et) Current Odds: Colorado -128 Total Runs 11

Less than a week ago, German Marquez had his worst outing of the season when he gave up eight runs against the Chicago Cubs.

He doesn’t have to wait long to try to get even with the Cubs. The right-hander faces them Monday when the Colorado Rockies open a seven-game homestand, starting with three against Chicago.

It is a rematch in every sense, too. The Cubs will start right-hander Yu Darvish, who got a no-decision in Chicago’s 9-8 win over Colorado and Marquez on Wednesday.

Marquez (6-3, 4.07 ERA) has been the steadying force for the Colorado rotation, but he was no match for the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He allowed a career-high-tying eight runs, which matched what he had given up in his three previous career meetings with Chicago.

The poor 5 1/3-inning outing left him 1-2 with a 6.86 ERA against the Cubs.

Marquez said postgame Wednesday that his problems were fixable.

“My mechanics were a little quick,” Marquez said. “I fell to first base. That’s why pitches got hit.”

Marquez has developed into an ace and a stopper for the Rockies, and they’ll need him to come through Monday night. Colorado went 2-4 on its road trip through Chicago and New York, where the Mets won the last two games of a three-game weekend series.

Colorado has rebounded from a rough start to the season, but if it wants to make the postseason for a third straight season, the wins need to come in bunches. Being at home might help: The Rockies went 9-1 on their last homestand to move above .500.

They’ll have to solve Darvish a little sooner than they did last Wednesday. It wasn’t until the sixth inning that Colorado got on the board against the right-hander and chased him from the game. Darvish left after 5 1/3 innings and finished with his seventh straight no-decision after the Rockies rallied against the Chicago bullpen.

The Cubs wouldn’t mind another big game from David Bote. The infielder drove in seven runs last Wednesday to continue a hot streak before cooling down in a weekend series against St. Louis, going 0-for-9. The seven RBIs tied Ryne Sandberg for the most by a Chicago second baseman. His career-high four hits gave him a .457 average (16-for-35) over a 12-game span.

“I didn’t realize the (recent) numbers were that heavy, but I knew that he’d been swinging the bat much better,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said the Wednesday game. “For me, from the side, it’s a shorter approach. It’s a more handsy approach, and it’s a more centered approach, and that’s why I think you’re seeing a better result.”

The Cubs head to Denver having won six of their past seven. They beat St. Louis 5-1 on Sunday night to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Cardinals.

Darvish (2-3, 4.88 ERA) is still looking for his first career win against Colorado. In four starts vs. the Rockies, he is 0-3 with an 8.20 ERA. One of those losses came in his only start at Coors Field, when he allowed five runs over 4 2/3 innings on April 21, 2018.
