Boson at Washington – Thursday NBA Pick
The Boston Celtics take I-95 South to our Nation’s Capital to square off against the Washington Wizards as part of TNT’s NBA Thursday night doubleheader. Game time from the Verizon Center is slated for 8 p.m.
Boston at Washington Game Preview
Boston was flying high with a straight-up four-game winning streak while covering against the spread in its previous six contests, but it fell hard to the ground against its toughest competition in the Eastern Conference with Tuesday’s 111-91 loss to Toronto as a five-point road underdog. The Celtics are still a solid 18-8 SU on the road with a profitable 17-9 record ATS on BetAnySports’ closing betting line.
Kyrie Irving sat out three of those four recent wins, but he was back in the lineup on Tuesday in Boston’s second-worst loss of the season. He scored 17 points and Terry Rozier scored a team-high 18 points in the losing cause. Irving remains the team’s leading scorer this season with an average of 24.7 points per game, but the Celtics fall all the way to 25th in the league in scoring with an average of 103.0 PPG.
The Wizards had put together a five-game winning streak both SU and ATS in the absence of one of their best players, but that quickly came to an end on Tuesday in a 115-102 loss to Philadelphia as six-point road underdogs. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing 212-point line in that game and it has gone OVER in five of their last seven games. Washington returns home with a SU record of 17-9, but it is just 10-16 ATS at home this season.
The reality that John Wall will not be in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future might have finally sunk in on Tuesday night. The rest of Wizards exceeded expectations during that recent five-game run, but they looked rather ordinary against a jacked-up 76ers’ team that was riding the crowd’s intensity from the Eagles’ recent Super Bowl win. Playing the best team in the East at home should be a solid test on Thursday night.
Boston at Washington Free Game Prediction
Irving showed some rust on Tuesday in his return to the lineup and Boston’s defense played soft against the Raptors right out of the gate. That will not be the case in this matchup with the Celtics taking this one on the road both SU and ATS.
