Game 4 of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Finals between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals is set for Monday night at Capital One Arena in an 8 p.m. start on NBC.

Vegas at Washington Game Preview

The last time that Vegas lost two games in a row was at the tail end of the regular season. It only needed 15 games to punch its ticket to the championship series at 12-3 in series victories against Los Angeles, San Jose and Winnipeg. With back-to-back losses to Washington in the last two games of the NHL Finals, the expansion Golden Knights face their first must-win situation in this year’s playoffs. With Saturday’s 3-1 loss in Game 3 staying UNDER BetAnySports’ closing 5.5-goal line, the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in seven of their last nine games.

After scoring six goals in Game 1 of this series, the Golden Knights have only managed to score three more goals over their last two games. They had the early lead in Game 2 on James Neal’s fifth playoff goal eight minutes into the first period, but Shea Theodore’s power play goal late in the second period was their only other goal of the game. Center Tomas Nosek scored the only goal in Game 3.

The Capitals’ reputation for epic collapses in the postseason has dogged this team for the past decade, but this year’s run could finally bring the Stanley Cup to Washington DC for the first time in franchise history. The one thing standing in their way to a commanding series lead is a very pedestrian 5-5 record on their home ice in this year’s playoffs. The total stayed UNDER in Saturday’s 3-2 victory at home as a -128 favorite and it has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in seven of Washington’s last eight contests.

The duo of left winger Alex Ovechkin and center Evgeny Kuznetsov have combined to score 26 postseason goals including the first two in Saturday’s Game 3 win. Even more impressive has been the play of goalie Braden Holtby in the Capitals’ last two games. Through 21 postseason games, his goals-against average stands at 2.13.

I am going with Vegas to even things up on Monday night, but my ‘best bet’ pick in Game 4 is the UNDER on BetAnySports’ 5.5-goal total line.
