NBA Playoff Picks – Game 2: Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics

The Cleveland Cavaliers were blown out by the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals, but they are not going to let that kind of thing destroy them mentally. But they are considering some tweaks in the lineup that they hope will make a difference as they try to even up the series on Tuesday night at the TD Garden. The action tips off at 8:35 PM ET, and BetAnySports customers can keep the action going full-tilt as they utilize the superior technology from Live Betting Ultra.
Sunday’s game was a complete nightmare, as the Cavs, who swept through the top-seeded Toronto Raptors rather easily, were blitzed from the outset by this chemistry-rich, fundamentally-proficient Boston squad, which was up 36-18 at the end of the first quarter and 61-35 at the half. LeBron James was flat, having been held to 15 points (and oh-for-5 from three-point range), mostly by Marcus Morris, who came out very focused on stopping him.
In addition, Cleveland was only 4-of-26 from beyond the arc, and allowed the Celtics to shoot 51% from the field. It was a rather humiliating blowout; so humiliating that they yanked LeBron out of action with seven minutes left and gave Rodney Hood and Jordan Clarkson considerable playing time (we say that somewhat tongue-in-cheek).
Now how many of you think the Cavs are going to repeat that performance? Somehow I don’t see any hands raised.
In the odds at BetAnySports by which our NBA playoff picks will be made, the game is a pick’em:

Under 203.5 points  -110
Not many people are really all that surprised that from a coaching standpoint, Brad Stevens was able to pull a fast one on his counterpart, Tyronn Lue; after all, Stevens is hailed as one of the great coaching minds in the NBA, while Lue is regarded by many as more or less a figurehead.
But no one could really forecast LeBron being shut down so effectively. And what happened with the Cavs was that no one had stepped up sufficiently. Kevin Love proved to be very much a liability on the defensive end once again, as Al Horford took him to school, hitting eight of his ten shots and racking up 20 points.
If it is just a matter of Cleveland (still the -125 favorite to win the series at BetAnySports) making shots from the outside where it has looks, that is the kind of thing that is correctable. LeBron has a history of coming back strong after these setbacks, and Lue may start Tristan Thompson on the front line and give him the assignment of defending Horford, so that Love can get some relief. And what will be interesting is to see how Stevens counters that; maybe he’ll go smaller and try to draw Love out on defense with an additional long-range shooter. Remember that Boston was second in the league in three-point accuracy.
Also remember that the Cavs were blown away by Indiana in the opening game of that series, and came back to win. You will see the full effort here, and recent history demands that we respect them enough to move in their direction.
