The Western Conference Semifinals series between the Winnipeg Jets and the Nashville Predators comes down to Thursday’s deciding Game 7 at Bridgestone Arena. Game time on NBC Sports Network for this Central Division showdown is set for 8 p.m.
Winnipeg at Nashville Game Preview
The Jets were able to forge a 3-2 lead in this series with a pair of road wins in Game 1 and in Game 5 by a combined score of 10-3. However, with a chance to close this series out on Monday night they came up well short in a 4-0 loss as -153 home favorites with BetAnySports. Winnipeg only needed five games to get past Minnesota in the opening round with three of the four wins coming on its home ice.
If Winnipeg is going to win a third road game against its bitter Central Division rival on Thursday, Mark Scheifele is going to have to have a big night. He has been the Jets’ top goal scorer in the playoffs with nine goals in 11 games. He is one of four players on the team with at least 10 points in the postseason. Winnipeg will also need Connor Hellebuyck to stay sharp in goal after posting a solid 2.36 goals-against average through his first 11 playoff games.
Nashville came into this series as solid favorites as the top point scoring team in the NHL (117). It still needed six games to get past Colorado in the opening round after losing Game 5 at home. When it comes to this series, the Predators won three games by a combined six goals aided by Monday’s shutout, but they have been outscored a combined 17-7 in their three losses.
The key to Nashville winning Game 7 to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the second-straight season is a fast start out of the gate. It will also need another big effort from the top stars from Game 6. Filip Forsberg provided the offense on Monday night with two of his seven goals in the playoffs and goalie Pekka Rinne turned away 34 shots on goal.
Winnipeg at Nashville Free Game Prediction
This should be a great game that comes right down to the wire. Anything can happen in a Game 7 setting between two closely matched rivals, but my lean is towards the hometown Predators playing with just a bit more experience on the bigger stage.
