The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Atlanta Braves kick off the second half of the MLB regular season this Friday night with the first of three weekend games at Sun Trust Park. Game 1 is set to start at 7:35 p.m. (ET).
Arizona at Atlanta Game Preview
The Diamondbacks lost some serious ground in the NL West title race against red-hot Los Angeles by dropping seven of their last 10 games before the break including a three-game sweep on the road at the hands of the Dodgers earlier this month. Arizona is now 53-36 overall and 7.5 games off the pace. It has gone 20-21 on the road this season and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH on BetAnySports’ closing in eight of its previous nine contests overall.
Right-hander Taijuan Walker is expected to be on the mound as Arizona’s starter for this game. He is coming off a rough outing against Cincinnati last weekend in which he allowed five earned runs on five hits in five innings pitched. Most of the damage done was on two Reds’ home runs. Overall, he is 6-4 this season with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
Atlanta could not make up any ground in the NL East Division title race against Washington last weekend with a 2-2 series split on the road. The Braves are still 9.5 games back at 42-45 and they are also a few games below .500 at home with a record of 20-22. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in the last three games against the Nationals, but it has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 11 home games.
RA Dickey will get things started on Friday night at Atlanta’s starter. He is coming off a pair of quality outings in which he allowed just two earned runs on nine hits in 13 innings pitched, but he failed to get the decision in either contest. Going back over the right-hander’s last four starts, he has only allowed a combined three earned runs in 27 innings to drop his ERA to 4.23 with a 1.34 WHIP.
Arizona at Atlanta Free Game Prediction
I will give the edge on the mound to Atlanta in this one given Dickey’s current form and while the Braves’ lineup has had its issues with run support at times, I still like the home team’s chances to get this series started with a win.
