Chicago at Pittsburgh- MLB Monday Pick
The Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates clash this Tuesday night at PNC Park in the first of a quick NL Central two-game set this week. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Chicago at Pittsburgh Game Preview
The Cubs have gone an even 6-6 coming off the All-Star break to watch their lead over Milwaukee in the NL Central Division title race shrink to just a game and a half heading into this week’s action. They are 61-44 with a road record of 28-25 after losing two of three to St. Louis on the road this past weekend. The total has stayed UNDER VietBet’s closing line in six of Chicago’s last seven games.
It will be Jon Lester’s turn in the starting rotation on Tuesday. The left hander failed to get the decision in Chicago’s 2-1 victory against Arizona last Wednesday. He went six full innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits. Lester is 12-3 on the year with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. The Cubs have won nine of their last 10 games when Lester gets the start.
Pittsburgh closed its gap with Chicago quite a bit with an 11-game winning streak earlier in July. It is still seven games off the pace at 55-52 following a not-so-hot 2-3 record over its last five games. The Pirates are coming off a 2-1 weekend series victory against the New York Mets at their home ball park. The total stayed UNDER of ended as a PUSH in all three of those games with their lineup scoring a combined 10 runs. They are currently 31-26 at home this year.
Look for Pittsburgh to turn to Jameson Taillon as its starter for Tuesday. The right hander is 7-8 this season through 21 starts with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He got tagged with the loss in last Wednesday’s start against Cleveland on the road after allowing two earned runs on seven hits in seven full innings on the mound. Pittsburgh lost that game 4-0, but it is still 4-2 in its last six games with Taillon on the mound.

The matchup on the mound should keep this a low-scoring affair, especially with the way that each lineup has been struggling to score runs on a consistent basis right now. This adds up to a play on the UNDER on VietBet’s eight-run total line.
