New York at Washington Game Preview

New York finds itself in an early hole in this three-game set with Monday night’s 3-2 loss as a +164 road underdog. The total stayed well UNDER VietBet’s closing 8.5-run line and it has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in six of its last seven contests. The Mets are now 10.5 games in back of Washington in the NL East at 38-44 and their record on the road this season drops below .500 to 19-20.

Seth Lugo will be on the mound for New York in an early start on the 4th of July and it will go with Jacob deGrom as its starter for Wednesday’s series finale. deGrom has been one of the hotter starters in the National League since mid-June with a four-game winning streak that included a gem against the Nationals on June 18 when he allowed just one unearned run on three hits in seven full innings of work.

Washington was able to get this series off to a strong start after losing the opener in its last two sets against the Chicago Cubs at home and St. Louis on the road. The Nationals are now 4-5 in their last nine games as part of an overall record of 49-34. They have gone 23-17 at home this season and the total has stayed UNDER VietBet’s closing line in five of their last six home games.

Look for Tanner Roark to get the start in this game after Joe Ross takes the mound for the holiday matinee. It has been tough sledding for Roark over his last five starts. After yielding a total of 24 earned runs in 22 2/3 innings pitched, the right-hander has been tagged with the loss in four of those games to go to 6-6 on the year and his ERA has ballooned up to 5.27 with a 1.48 WHIP.

Given the way that DeGrom has been pitching lately, New York should be able to come away with the win on Wednesday night with a major advantage on the mound.
