St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers – 8/1/17 MLB Preview and Pick
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers clash in the first of a three-game NL Central Division clash this Tuesday night in a 7:35 p.m. (ET) start at Miller Park.
St. Louis at Milwaukee Game Preview
The Cardinals walked away with a 2-2 series split against Arizona at home over the weekend after sweeping Colorado in three home games last week. This 5-2 run has them 4.5 games in back of Chicago in the NL Central Division race at 52-53 on the year. St. Louis will now have to go back on the road with a record of 21-27. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in seven of its last nine games on BetAnySports’ closing line.
To get things going in the right direction this week, the Cardinals will turn to Carlos Martinez as their starter for Tuesday night. The right-hander is 7-8 through 21 starts this year with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He won his last start against Colorado despite getting tagged for five earned runs on seven hits over six innings pitched. He has gotten some solid run support over his past two outings with St. Louis winning both games by a combined score of 21-9.
Milwaukee needs to quickly right the ship following a 3-7 slide in its last 10 games. At 55-52 on the year, it suddenly finds itself 2.5 games in back of a suddenly hot Chicago team. The Brewers lost two of three at home this weekend against the Cubs while scoring a grand total of five runs. The total stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing line in all three contests. They are now 29-26 at Miller Park this season.
Look for Jimmy Nelson to get the start for Milwaukee in this game. He failed to get the decision in last week’s start against Washington despite holding the Nationals to two earned runs on four hits through seven innings pitched. The righty is 8-5 this year heading into his 22nd start and his current ERA stands at 3.38 with a 1.20 WHIP.
St. Louis at Milwaukee Free Game Prediction
The should be a good one with a pair of quality starters on the mound. While I would lean towards the Cardinals a bit given Milwaukee’s recent struggles, I am going with the UNDER on BetAnySports’ 8.5-run total line as my top pick in this game.
