Detroit at Green Bay- NFL Week 9 Monday Night Game Preview and Pick
Monday Night Football on ESPN in Week 9 renews a classic matchup in the NFC North between the 3-4 Detroit Lions and the 4-3 Green Bay Packers in an 8:30 p.m. (ET) kickoff at Lambeau Field.
Detroit at Green Bay Game Preview
The Lions started the season with three victories in their first four games both straight-up and against the spread, but their current slide (SU and ATS) reached three games with last Sunday night’s 20-15 loss to Pittsburgh as three-point home underdogs. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in four of Detroit’s first six games, but it stayed well UNDER the 44.5-point closing line in last week’s loss.
If you would just look at the box score and not the scoreboard in the Lions’ last three losses, you might think they won those games with Matthew Stafford’s passing stats. While he threw for 964 yards and five touchdowns in those trio of losses while completing 75 of an whopping 132 passing attempts, the end result was the same each time. With a ground game that is 28th in the league in rushing yards (82.1) the lack of balance on this offense is taking its toll.
Coming off a bye week at 4-3 SU with a 3-4 record ATS, Green Bay will try and halt a two-game skid both SU and ATS in losses to Minnesota on the road and to New Orleans at home. The total had gone OVER in four of the Packers’ first five games behind a scoring average of 27.4 points per game, but it has stayed UNDER in their last two games after scoring combined 27 points.
The big reason for the huge downturn in scoring is the loss of quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the foreseeable future with a shoulder injury. In his place, Brett Hundley has completed 31 of his 59 passing attempts for 244 yards and one score. Most of those yards came against the Vikings after being held to just 87 yards passing in the loss to the Saints. Green Bay turned to its running game against New Orleans to add 181 yards on the ground, but it still only added up to 17 points on the scoreboard.
Detroit at Green Bay Free Game Prediction
You automatically know things are out of balance in the NFC North with Green Bay getting points at home on a Monday night. As tempting as that may look even without Rodgers in the lineup, the ‘best bet’ pick in this one is the UNDER on BetAnySports’ 43-point total line.
