Football Betting Odds – Kansas City Chiefs at New York Giants

The New York Giants are a beleaguered bunch right now. Last year they took a trip to the playoffs, dealing the Dallas Cowboys a pair of regular-season defeats, but this year it’s been nothing but misery, and that includes an injury to Odell Beckham which has affected them right from the outset. There is no chance for them to get things together in time to make the playoffs, and most of the talk around the Big Apple these days involves whether they might get a draft pick high enough in the first round to select a successor to Eli Manning. On Sunday the Giants will go up against the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that has lost a lot of momentum after getting off to a 5-0 start, and this game will begin at 1 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. CBS will carry the game, and BetAnySports patrons can take advantage of real-time wagering after the opening kickoff, using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.
Two weeks ago, the Giants lost 51-17 to the Los Angeles Rams, and they followed that up with a defeat at the hands of the previously winless San Francisco 49ers. Everybody thought that would be enough to lose Ben McAdoo his job, but that was not the case, as he has received at least temporary support from management. But there is no question that things are out of control with this team. On offense, they did not really have a running game to start the season with, and Beckham, with his ankle injury, never really supplied much explosiveness. Another injury to Brandon Marshall, a key free agent acquisition, further derailed McAdoo’s plans to develop the offense. Manning has had reasonably good stats, completing almost 65% of his passes and being intercepted only six times in 333 attempts, but the points just haven’t come. The Giants have been held to a three-and-out 28.2% of the time and are just 28th in points on a per-drive basis.
The Chiefs are a solid bunch, and they are applying the old Andy Reid formula, which is to cut down on turnovers, doing that less frequently than any other team in the league. And they have been pretty productive on offense, ranking fourth in the league in yards per drive. Obviously a key person in this is Kareem Hunt, the rookie out of Toledo who has 1131 yards from scrimmage. But the Chiefs have lost three of their last four games, and the defense has to be at least partially to blame.
In the football betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Chiefs are laying a considerable number on the road:
Kansas City Chiefs -9.5
New York Giants +9.5
Over 45.5 points -110
Under 45.5 points -110
The defense was so good for the Giants last season, but thyey have taken a huge drop this year. This unit has registered only 13 sacks and four interceptions in the first nine games, while giving up a league-high 20 touchdown passes. And a lot of the media has singled out the virtual non-effort on the part of defensive back Janoris Jenkins last week, as rookie quarterback CJ Beathard of the 49ers found receivers twice for long touchdown passes, burning Jenkins in the process.
On the offensive side, Evan Engram, the rookie tight end, is now the leading receiver, and that is kind of unusual for this offense. But he’s healthy, and that seems to be what counts right now. You have to applaud Orleans Darkwa as well, for giving this team at least the semblance of a running game, as he is averaging 5.1 yards per carry. So there are at least some good things going on with a team carrying a 1-8 record (3-6 ATS).
BetAnySports customers know that the Chiefs play fundamentally well on offense, but they have not gotten a lot of results out of their defense, which has allowed more yards per drive than any team in the NFL with the exception of one, and has yielded more first downs than anyone. So even though they give up just 55% completions, they do not put a lot of pressure on the passer (just 19 sacks) and have allowed 7.2 yards per attempt. Clearly they miss safety Eric Berry, who tore his Achilles in the opening game and is out for the season.
There appears to be little question that the Giants can be exploited at the point of attack, as they gave up 186 rushing yards to San Francisco in the 10-point loss last week. Hunt has 800 rushing yards, and Alex Smith, who has thrown only one interception in 293 attempts, is averaging two more yards per attempt then Manning. The Chiefs might benefit in the situation from their head coach, as Andy Reid has a career record of 16-2 coming out of a bye week. In this case, however, were going to go OVER the total of 45.5 points as our football betting play.
