BetAnySports Pointspread: New York -1

The featured game on NFL Network heading into the final week of the preseason is a traditional matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets in a 7 p.m. (ET) start this Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

Philadelphia at New York Game Preview

In what has become the Eagles’ final preseason opponent for the past several seasons, they will face the Jets this time around with a 2-1 record both straight-up and against the spread in their first three preseason matchups. The total went OVER 42.5 points in last Thursday’s 38-31 victory at home against Miami after closing as three-point favorites with BetAnySports.

Philadelphia finally found some rhythm on offense against the Dolphins behind Carson Wentz’s two touchdown throws in the first quarter of play. The first was a 50-yard scoring strike to Torrey Smith followed by a 15-yard scoring toss to Alshon Jeffrey. Both of these wide receivers were signed as free agents this offseason as part of an effort to upgrade the team’s big play capability. The Eagles also added LeGarrette Blount at running back to boost their ground game.

New York could be in position to take another step backwards coming off last year’s five-win season. BetAnySports has the Jets listed as heavy +10000 underdogs to win the AFC East and they have the longest odds on the board to win the AFC title at +15000. A 1-2 start (both SU and ATS) in the preseason has done little to change this dismal forecast for the 2017 regular season. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ 36-point line in a 32-31 loss to the New York Giants last week as 4.5-point road underdogs after staying UNDER in their first two preseason games.

Quarterback Bryce Petty left the game against the Giants due to injury and he was replaced by Christian Hackenberg. The Jets did throw for 367 yards in that game while adding another 103 yards on the ground, but a safety and two interceptions returned for touchdowns set the tone for the night. It remains to be seen which quarterback will lineup under center on opening day against Buffalo with Josh McCown also in the mix.

The fourth and final preseason game is all about shoring up those final few roster spots as opposed to coming away with a win, but I would still take Philadelphia SU a more talented and deeper team.
