Week 3 of this year’s NFL preseason gets underway this Thursday night with an inter-conference clash between the Miami Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles in a 7 p.m. (ET) start at Lincoln Financial Field. All the action can be caught nationally on NFL Network.

Miami at Philadelphia Game Preview

Miami earned a split in its first two preseason games and while head coach Adam Case may have had a few good takeaways from his team’s 23-20 victory against Atlanta as a one-point home favorite in Week 1, there could be cause for concern following last week’s 31-7 loss to Baltimore as a 2.5-point home favorite with BetAnySports. The total went OVER the closing line in both games.

Veteran quarterback Jay Cutler was brought in to help fill the void left by Ryan Tannehill’s season-ending injury and he ended his brief stint against the Ravens with 24 yards passing while completing three of six attempts. The overall concern has to be with an offense that generated a total of 74 yards through the air and 46 yards on the ground in that lopsided loss.

Philadelphia is also 1-1 both straight-up and against the spread with BetAnySports through its first two preseason games. After losing to Green Bay 24-9 in Week 1 as one-point road favorites, the Eagles bounced back with a 20-16 victory against Buffalo last Thursday as three-point favorites at home. The total stayed UNDER the closing line in both of those contests.

There is no doubt that Carson Wentz is the starting quarterback in Philly heading into his second season in the league. After a solid start against Green Bay with a touchdown drive in his only series on the field, he completed six of nine passing attempts against the Bills for 56 yards. In his first game since coming over from Buffalo in a trade, cornerback Ronald Darby had the play of the game by picking off a pass from his old team and returning it 48 yards the other way.

It could take a few more weeks for Cutler to gel with his new offense, so in the meantime I am going with the Eagles to cover the 3.5 points at home this Thursday night.
