Monday Night Football Odds – Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers (11/13)

Are things looking up for the Miami Dolphins? They got their best game yet out of quarterback Jay Cutler last time out, but they may need for him to stretch the field little more. The Carolina Panthers are waiting for them with one of the better defenses in the National Football League, and these clubs will meet up on Monday night at 8:30 PM ET at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity to get reduced juice before the game, and then after the kickoff, they can continue with the action in real time using the state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Ultra.
Cutler had injured his ribs, and gave way to backup Matt Moore, who presided over a horrific 40-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. And there was the trade of Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi. So the Dolphins had to have a new running back rotation, and Cutler, who had been ineffective, throwing for less than six yards an attempt, had to come back from his injury against the Oakland Raiders in a Sunday night game at home. Well, Cutler threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns, and he had to air it out 42 times, and because head coach Adam Gase obviously was not all that confident in his ground attack. Miami gave it a good shot, but lost 27-24. They are now 4-4 straight-up and 3-3-2 against the football pointspread.
The Panthers, who beat Atlanta 20-17 last time out, have a certain offensive dilemma of their own. Unless rookie running back Christian McCaffrey continues to give them efforts like he did last week, when he gained 66 yards on the ground, Cam Newton is going to have to shoulder a lot of the burden of pulling the ball down and carrying it, which leaves him at more risk. Greg Olson is injured, and Kelvin Benjamin has been traded, so this Panthers offense lacks firepower. Nonetheless, their defense has carried them to a 6-3 straight-up record (5-4 ATS). They are a game behind New Orleans in the NFC South.
In the Monday night football odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Carolina is the clear favorite:
Carolina Panthers -8
Miami Dolphins +8
Over 38 points -110
Under 38 points -110
Newton had shoulder surgery in the off-season, and his range was limited. He still isn’t necessarily sure of himself all the time, and he’s thrown eleven interceptions to prove it. He will be taking snaps from backup center Tyler Larson, as Ryan Kalil is still out, and head coach Ron Rivera wishes that he had more production of Jonathan Stewart, who is averaging less than three yards per carry. But McCaffrey has been a revelation of sorts, because he has caught so many passes – 54, to be exact, which puts him on pace to be close to 100 by season’s end, which is phenomenal for a running back. Of course, when they drafted him out of Stanford in the first round it was with the hope that he could do multiple things.
The Dolphins will be going with the duo of Kenyon Drake and Damien Williams; that is, if Williams’ illness does not keep him out of this one. The Dolphins are last in the league, averaging 14.5 points per game, but they haven’t necessarily played badly on the defensive end. It helps that the defense has the best average starting feel position in the league.
Still, when it comes to defense, Carolina trumps them. They have allowed only 274 yards per game, and no one has done better than that. And the Panthers might be able to exploit one thing that is a particular weakness with this Miami team, and that they force a lot of three-and-outs – on 29% of all drives, in fact, which is second-best in the NFL. The Dolphins are forced to punt on 52% of their drives. In half of their victories this season, the Panthers have allowed just a single field goal. We are thinking this points us toward and “under” in the Monday night football odds.
