NFL Betting – Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions

What can we expect from the Carolina Panthers‘ Cam Newton, a week after an excellent performance in which he burned the New England Patriots and their suspect defense? Believe it or not, he has a tighter crew to go up against as he faces the Detroit Lions in a game that will begin at 1 PM ET at Ford Field. Fox Network will televise the game on a regional basis, and BetAnySports customers can get their fill of reduced juice, giving them better NFL betting odds, and then, after the game starts, they can engage in real-time wagering through the magic of Live Betting Ultra.
Newton, of course, had surgery on his shoulder in the off-season, and there was some concern about he getting his passes down the field. But he had a real banner day against the Patriots, who have really struggled on the defensive side. Carolina rolled up 444 yards and beat back a New England rally, taking advantage of penalties to kick a lead field-goal and garner a 33-30 win.
For Detroit, it was important for them to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to the Atlanta Falcons, in which an officials review stopped they would-be touchdown just inches short of the goal line, and a rule necessitated that the clock run out. Last week’s win at Minnesota might not have been the most inspiring score (14-7), but it brought them to 3-1, and that’s not a bad place to be, after the losing streak that ended the 2016 season.
In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Lions are favored at home:
Detroit Lions -2.5
Carolina Panthers  +2.5

Over 42 points -110
Under 42 points -110
The Lions forced only 14 turnovers all of last season, but they have eleven already, and that is a tribute to some of the different things that coordinator Teryl Austin is doing. The Lions had a very permissive secondary, at least in terms of pass completion percentage last season, but they have improved upon that a great deal, and with seven interceptions and 10 sacks, they can put some pressure on Newton.
Overall, the Panthers have given up a pretty high percentage of completions themselves (71%), but their opponents have not gotten too far with that (5.8 yards per attempt). Matthew Stafford has thrown only one interception 130 attempts, and the Lions will continue to try to get something out of the backfield and Ameer Abdullah, who is up and down and has not reached the 4.2 yards per attempt that offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter would like to see from him.
Speaking of rushing, Newton did something Ron Rivera doesn’t necessarily want him to do all that much, which is run the ball last week. He carried it eight times for 44 yards and a touchdown. He did have three touchdowns through the air, but there are couple of questions here – namely, whether Newton can repeat a performance like that, and whether the Panthers are perhaps a little let down.
Were going to gravitate toward the Detroit side in this one, even though Carolina has been a very successful team on third downs, converting 52%.
