NFL Betting – New York Jets at Denver Broncos
Unbelievably, the New York Jets are still not completely out of the playoff race, you can expect a certain amount of intensity when they take the field on Sunday afternoon to face the Denver Broncos in a game that begins at 4:05 PM ET at Sports Suthority Field at Mile High. CBS will televise the game on a regional basis, and if you are a BetAnySports customer you can take advantage of reduced juice before the game, then access Live Betting Ultra for real-time wagering, adding to the excitement.
The Jets had lost five of their previous six games before coming up very big at home last Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. They rolled up 488 yards of offense, and put forth a real effort in the fourth quarter for a change as they turned back Alex Smith and his teammates. What may have been really unexpected is the fact that they controlled the football for 43 minutes, which is obviously a very encouraging sign. The Jets improved to 5-7 straight-up with that victory, and they are very respectable 7-4-1 against the points. And they have confounded the New York press, which didn’t think they win more than one or two ballgames this season.
The Broncos have confounded people as well, as a team with one of the best defensive units in all of football has now lost eight games in a row. The problem might be that they just don’t have solid quarterback play. Trevor Siemian was re-inserted into the lineup after Paxton Lynch was rather ineffective last week, and he completed only 19 of his 41 passes for 200 yards with three interceptions in a disastrous effort against the Miami Dolphins. Denver converted only one out of 13 on third down, and the defensive front folded, allowing Miami, which didn’t even have a first-rate running back, to gain 145 yards on the ground. So everything is kind of collapsing around them. Denver is now 3-9 straight-up into dismal 2-9-1 ATS.
In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the game is a pick’em:

Under 41 points -110
Josh McCown just keeps doing the job for the Jets, and his performance thus far (68%, 18 touchdowns, eight interceptions) has precluded head coach Todd Bowles from reaching for a younger quarterback like Christian Hackenberg to come in and get some experience. McCown has certainly forged interesting connections, and Robbie Anderson and Jermaine Kearse became the first pair of Jets receivers in 50 years to both go over the 100-yard mark in the same game.
Denver is 0-6 on the road, but obviously much better at home (3-3). They have some impressive statistics on the defensive side; opponents have succeeded only 30% of the time on third down against them, and they are second-best in the NFL in yards allowed per drive. But they often fail in the red zone, and that’s where the Jets have to seek their opening. You have to give Bowles a lot of credit for getting this team to go out there and make an effort every week, even though the Jets have often beaten themselves in the fourth quarter. So was last week an exception to the rule? Was it an aberration? Denver, which has dropped eight straight against the spread as well, is liable to come into this game pretty angry, and if that translates itself into something extra on the defensive side, they could create some problems for the New York offensive line. The Broncos were somewhat humiliated in a supplemental way, as Miami coach Adam Gase, who was upset at not being named the head coach in Denver when John Fox left, actually called an onside kick in the fourth quarter, up 24 points. The Broncos may make a last stand here, so we will move with them in the pick’em situation against a Jets team that feasted on underachieving defense last week.
