NFL Betting – Stanton Gets Start For Cards vs. Giants

It’s been a long season for the Arizona Cardinals, as they not only lost their star running back, but also came down to their third-string quarterback. They will make another change at the position on Sunday as they face off against the New York Giants in a game that will begin at 4:25 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. If you are a BetAnySports customer, you can benefit from reduced juice, which gives you more value on the NFL betting odds, and if you crave action even after the opening kickoff, they can accommodate you, using the state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Ultra.
The guy who all the fantasy competitors were drooling over at the start of the season was David Johnson, who might put together the best rushing-receiving package in the league, with the possible exception of Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell. Johnson was expected to be an MVP candidate if Arizona could contend for the playoffs, but he suffered a wrist injury early on and has not been available at any other point in the season. The Cardinals have also utilized two different running backs who have rushed for 2000 yards in a season – Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson. When they traded for Peterson, they cut Johnson, and now Peterson is out with a neck injury. That pretty much leaves things in the hands of Kerwyn Williams, who has been pretty solid at times.
But more importantly, Drew Stanton will be drawing the start once again at quarterback. Carson Palmer suffered a season-ending injury, and if Arizona’s playoff hopes weren’t dead before then, they were certainly dying at that point. Stanton briefly started in his place, but then had to sit down with a knee injury, making way for Blaine Gabbert, who has made five starts and is not the future. Gabbert at a 16-41 performance against Washington last week in a rather sloppy 20-15 lost in which Arizona only managed five field goals. He was also sacked five times by the Washington pass rush, and so head coach Bruce Arians has made the decision to go with Stanton, who is still not 100%, because “it gives his team the best chance to win.” So they don’t have a lot of faith in Gabbert, obviously.
In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Arizona is the favorite:
Arizona Cardinals -3.5 (+100)
New York Giants +3.5 (-120)

Over 39 points -110
Under 39 points -110
There are some people around New York who would love to see the Giants take a look at Davis Webb, the rookie quarterback drafted in the third round this past year who might be in competition for the position if Eli Manning departs after the season. Why would Manning depart? Well, there had to have been some hard feelings over his benching a few weeks ago, which may have led to the firing of head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese, even though supposedly ownership was behind the idea of putting Manning on the bench, at least for certain stretches, so they could take a look at Webb. Ultimately, Geno Smith got the start in Manning’s place, which was curious. Smith is once again the backup on the depth chart for this game, so if Webb is going to get some playing time, it won’t come until the season finale. But the rookie is drawing high praise from a lot of the people he has been throwing to in practice.
The Giants were very competitive last week against the Philadelphia Eagles team that has the best record in football, even though, as BetAnySports patrons know, Philly was going without starting quarterback Carson Wentz. Manning, in what turn out to be his last great moment in a Giants uniform, passed for 434 yards, and the Giants racked up 504 yards of total offense. But they were victimized by horrible special teams play, in which they had a punt blocked, along with a blocked extra point in a blocked field goal. Can they get those problems straightened out? That would be a key to a road victory here.
We are inclined to take the points with the Giants, even though they are the East Coast team traveling out West. We’re not all that confident and stand to begin with, and we’re also not convinced he has the kind of mobility that Bruce Arians is claiming he has. Yes, the Cards might be able to get by with the running game based pieced together, especially since Elijhaa Penny is part of it now, but they have not been able to put a lot of distance between themselves and opponents in winning situations, winning five games by five points or less. Let’s go with Big Blue in this one.
