Oakland at Philadelphia- NFL Week 16 Monday Night Game Preview and Pick
Christmas night offers up an inter-conference clash between the 6-8 Oakland Raiders and the 12-2 Philadelphia Eagles in an 8:30 p.m. kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field. ESPN will carry the game nationally.
Oakland at Philadelphia Game Preview
Oakland’s postseason plans came to a sudden end last Sunday night in a tough 20-17 loss to Dallas at home. The game ended as a PUSH on BetAnySports’ closing betting line to drop the Raiders to 6-8 straight-up and 4-8-2 against the spread. The total stayed UNDER 46 points and it has now stayed UNDER in their last five contests. They head on the road this week with a 1-4-1 record ATS in six previous road games this year.
Left to play the role of spoiler, look for a heavy dose of Derek Carr trying to move the ball down the field through the air. He has thrown for 3,113 yards and 20 touchdowns this season on an offense that is ranked 22nd in the league in scoring with 20.1 points per game. One of Oakland’s biggest problems all season long has been a highly inconsistent defense that is ranked 23rd against the pass and 19th in points allowed (23.1).
The Eagles moved one step closer towards securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs in the NFC with Sunday’s 34-29 victory against the rival New York Giants as 7.5-point home favorites with BetAnySports. They are now 12-2 SU overall with a 10-4 record against the spread after failing to cover in that game. The total has gone OVER in their last two games after giving up a combined 64 points in those two contests.
While Philadelphia has been a bit sketchy on defense lately, its high-powered offense did not skip a beat on Sunday with Nick Foles taking over for Carson Wentz at quarterback. Wentz is done for the season with a torn ACL, but Foles looked like he was just getting started with 237 yards passing and four touchdown throws. The Eagles’ offense overall is averaging 31.3 PPG, which is first in the NFL and it is ranked third in average yards (386.9).

The spread at BetAnySports continues to widen for Monday night’s matchup, but I am a bit leery of the Eagles’ chances to cover the nine points in light of their recent play on defense. What I do like is the OVER on the 47.5-point total line with both teams lighting up the scoreboard in prime time on Christmas night.
