Thanksgiving NFL Betting — New York Giants at Washington Redskins (11/23)
The New York Giants have had a lousy season, but last week they were able to do something that at least put a smile on their faces temporarily. It was almost a revisitation of the dominant defense they had shown last year, when they went to the playoffs as a wild-card. But do they have enough stamina to repeat that performance? They will meet up with the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving night at 8:30 PM ET at FedEx Field, and while NBC televises it, BetAnySports customers can get their fill of real-time wagering as they access the state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Ultra.
For the Giants, last Sunday’s 12-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs was just their second win of the season, and even the most ardent pessimists didn’t figure was going to be this bad. That’s because the Giants had a genuine revival on the defensive side last season, but they have been unable to take that into the 2017 campaign. Yes, there are some excuses for this ballclub to not be producing points, since the most explosive player they have – wide receiver Odell Beckham – is out for the year with an ankle injury. But until last week, they had not shown much inclination to stop people, or force turnovers.
The Redskins are at a point where they have to win or they will be virtually eliminated from the playoff race. They already trail the Philadelphia Eagles by five games in the NFC East, and they are two games behind the second wild-card spot. Last week game was a killer, as they dropped a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter to Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, losing 34-31 in overtime.
The Giants come into this game with a straight-up record up to 2-8, and they are 4-6 against the points. The Redskins are 4-6, both straight-up and vs. the number.
In the Thanksgiving NFL betting odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Washington is favored by a touchdown:
Washington Redskins -7
New York Giants +7
Over 45 points -110
Under 45 points -110
Ben McAdoo is desperately trying to hold onto his job, although most observers feel like he’ll be let go in the off-season, at the latest. He had called out some of his defensive players, including Landon Collins and Janoris Jenkins, after the subpar effort of the previous two weeks, where they gave up a total of 82 points to the Rams and 49ers. Well, this team, which had only four interceptions going into the game with the Chiefs, picked off three, including two against Alex Smith, who had come into the game having thrown only one interception all season. Collins had 14 tackles and all in all, it looked like a very inspired effort.
But BetAnySports patrons have to consider something else, which is that the offense didn’t produce much, and it was the 15th straight game where the Giants have scored 24 or fewer points. Will they have to trade with these Redskins? Well, it does hurt Washington that they have lost Chris Thompson for the season with a broken leg, because he provided the potential for a big-play element. But Kirk Cousins, who threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns last week, is connecting more with Josh Doctson, the former first-round draft pick who had four receptions for 81 yards against the Saints. And in the way of encouragement, they got their first 100-yard rusher of the season in Samaje Perine, the rookie out of Oklahoma. Right now they are functioning a little better, despite having lost four of their last five games, and they are the more desperate crew, plus the Giants have not been able to be counted on for very much this season, so we will lean toward the home team.
